Barre joined Jethro Tull in 1968, replacing founding guitarist Mick Abrahams as the band entered the studio to record its second album, Stand Up. He would remain the band’s lead guitarist until they formally called time on their partnership in 2014 with frontman Ian Anderson opting to focus on solo projects. Barre, who began touring with his own group in 2012, Martin Barre’s New Day, played his final concert with Jethro Tull in Munich, Germany, in July 2011.
Back To Steel is Barre’s sixth solo album. The blues-rock group he’s on the road in the midst of a North American tour, includes bassist Alan Thomson, rhythm guitarist Dan Crisp and drummer George Lindsay. Thomson has worked extensively with a who’s who of British and North American folk, blues and progressive standouts including John Martyn, Long John Baldry, Hank Marvin, Amos Garrett, Rick Wakeman and Andy Summers
The band plays classic tracks from Jethro Tull as well as material from the new album and music from Barre’s back catalog which spans his 50-year career.
