The program highlighted a wide variety of artists covering The Band as well as a handful of tracks from The Weight who will be playing the music of The Band, Feb. 13 at The Kate in Old Saybrook and Feb. 14 at Infinity Hall in Hartford.

Weider, who spent 15 years with The Band, formed The Weight several years ago, teaming with Randy Ciarlante (drums), Marty Grebb (keyboards), Brian Mitchell (bass) and Albert Rogers (bass), to carry on the music of the legendary group who got their start backing Ronnie Hawkins as The Hawks. They would later support Bob Dylan before going out on their own, releasing their famed debut, Music From Big Pink, in 1968.

While Weider and Ciarlante each spent time in The Band, they also were part of Band drummer Levon Helm’s group as was Mitchell; Grebb, who did time with the Buckinghams and was a founding member of the Fabulous Rhinestones, sessioned on one Band album and played in side projects led by Band bassist Rick Danko and keyboardist Garth Hudson; while Rogers has played with Helm and Hudson.
